wau = audi pass car, euro production
next three digits are used in us-only VINs, so they are all Z's in the euro
VIN plates, and otherwise specific wherever US-only VIN plates are
attached, such as the dash position.
they are codes for the body type, engine and passenger restraint system.
i don't have the urq body codes, but C=2.2l 130hp turbo gas, 0=active
restraint.
digits 7-8 are the model code - not sure why yours deviates here and i
don't have the urq model codes.
digit 9 is a check digit, so it would obviously differ for different VINs.
digit 10 is model year - D=83
digit 11 is manifacturing plant - A=Ingolstadt
digits 12-17 are sequential production numbers - how a "Z" figures into
that is a mystery to me...
