It is not a SILLY question, it is a very good question..........
The hose is an Hyd. Line, I think it is the one that goes to the steering
rack, short of changing the hose (which is a real pain in the ass), there is
nothing to do.

I'm under my car doing a regular oil change, left arm pointed toward the
drivers seat.  Doo doo doo, letting the black, nasty oil drain into my
bucket, I look up above the horn and see this large, wide hosey-tube
thing...This H-T.T. was flaky and chipping off big pieces of old
rubber....What is this big hose called?  I know this is a foolish question
but I've been in New York for a few weeks and the Audi knowledge has been
sucked out of my brain.
