Interesting. I have the "Super Torque" belt listed for the ur-quattro
aluminium engine only.

The problem is that Audi keyed the microfiche off chassis number, not
off engine number. The same problem exists with the ur-quattro MB
engine - according to the microfiche, chassis 85-J-900644 and later use
the 142-tooth belt. Earlier MBs use the 120-tooth belt.

However - starting around 85-J-900736 Audi built a short series (50 cars?)
with back-level engines. These cars (all have engine numbers beginning
with MB0013nn) use the older 120-tooth belt.

Linda's problem is very likely that her fiche does not document a similar
anomaly with the 3B engine - perhaps your engine slipped in early?

It's also entirely possible that a PO replaced the gears. If they're
done as a set (cam, crank and water pump) it might be seen as a useful
upgrade. The aim was not 'super torque' but a longer life - perhaps
your PO knew this ...
