Audi v. HP

Mark, the S2 car we ran at LSPR was with the FIA 32mm restrictor installed,
boost, turbo and computer not operating to peak design parameters (a nice way
of saying 'detuned' eh?). The SCCA 40mm restrictor is 25% larger, and the
information available to me indicates that 420hp is an easy target, in fact
more than that is quite realistic.

Why? Well, let's take a look at Audis v HP through the turbo years:
*  A1 - 10vt Rally = 360HP @ 7000rpm
*  SQ - 20vt Rally = 400 @ 7500
*  SQ S1 - 20vt Rally = 450 @ 7500
*  200tq - 10vt Rally = 250 @ 6000
*  SQ S1 - 20vt Pikes Peak = 598 @ 8000

Ok, now it starts to get interesting:
*  200tq Trans Am - 10vt = 510 @ 7500
*  90 IMSA GTO - 20vt = 720 @ 7500

What changed in the late 80's? A.S. got smarter with the toys they used. I
don't think that 720 in a Rally car would last the race, but certainly more
than 420 would. Lots of the parts available in your SMS catalog Mark, were
not available when Audi was rallying. Add to that, the 20vt development is
now less of a mystery, and more cross pollination of proven tweeks, you have
some serious HP potential in that 20vt motor.

Since all these figures are A.S. published, how close to the truth are they?
I'm betting kinda low, but regardless, they certainly indicate that 420 is an
easy target. Restrictors just mean that the HP boys have to be smarter.
Boost pressure is only one part of the HP equation.
