Greatest Car Movies was: Italian Job

Well, let's start a new thread. Greatest Car Movies of All Time.

1. Grand Prix: Ahead of its time. Excellent all around. Even the sappy
love parts (except for Eva Marie Saint's final wailings). Best deadpan
line: "Well, what did you want me to do? Beat him with my crutches?" Real
actors, real flames @ Brands Hatch, some dated screen wipes but they tend
to be nostalgically charming rather than detracting.
2. Ronin: Mr. Frankenheimer's current speed and mayhem flick.
3. Le Mans: Steve McQueen, Porsche 917s & Ferrari 512s. 'nuff said. Need
more? Opening sequence in the 911. Camera Car (Porsche 908) actually
finished 8th in the race. Oh yeah, rain footage!
4. Winning. Paul Newman. Sure, it's sappy and but JoAnne Woodward was
(and still is!) his wife, it started his love for racing and hey, 1968 was
my first Indy 500 but I don't remember the crash. Special Highlight: Paul
Newman drives Bobby Unser's 1968 winning Gurney Eagle...
5. Days of Thunder. Oops, sorry wrong list. Good photography but I hate
the Tom Cruise formula plot (young, super-talented "fill in the blank" with
ghosts from the past screws up and is saved from himself by the
intervention of a female).

There, that should get the ball rolling..... <g>
