Re: Euro Lights?

Ah, yes, my child. Let me "enlighten" you
<ducks, runs for cover> ;)

"overwattage" and "coated" does not mean "eurolight", which is sort of
short for "European specification headlights"
Two VERY different things. They're trying to cash in on people who think
they're getting what the beemers and mercs have(HID lighting.)

No, no, no, and , uh, no. Eurolights use different bulbs(H1/H3/H4's)
instead of shitty 9004-like bulbs. They have a different reflector. The
main reflector does tend to look sort of like the US spec reflector, but
there is a slight difference. The other main difference is the lens
design; it's much "clearer", is better glass, and the fresnel(sp?) rings
are more carefully placed. The end result is a very nice, even light
distribution that is, according to the hundreds of listers that ever bought
a set, worth every single penny. You also get, with the turbo lights, an
extra set of "driving" lights. They call them "driving" lights because
the main bulb has both low and high beam filaments; the driving lights are
basically "auxiliary high beams". Another 200 watts, just to be safe :)
>If US spec audis can be changed to e-code lens, who sells them?
As previously explained, you change out the entire unit. A group of us
just did a massive group purchase of Eurolights from a company called Denon
Performance. Don't have the number handy. I'll post it tomorrow. Lots of
other places sell them; the question is, who sells them -cheap-. Usually
the only way to go is with a group purchase. Your local friendly Audi
dealer will gladly take upwards of $800 for a set of euro's.
For a 5000 turbo or 200, expect to pay about $230-240/side; other cars are
cheaper, if I recall. The 5000 non-turbo lights definately are, because
they only have one bulb socket. The cost does not include the harness(Todd
Candey has one, for $95 or so.)
Also. some euros won't fit without a little careful relocation of various
items(usually the battery jumper terminal and the washer bottle.) Not a
problem on 200's, a close fit on 5000 turbos, and I know the bottle has to
be relocated on Coupe Q's and 90's(right?)
HTH!
