Not at all. On the MB ur-quattro, the alternator has to come out to
create enough space for the intercooler to be dropped. I noticed that
the sense wire on the alternator was very dicey, and replaced it during
the rebuild.

Since the intercooler proved to be spotlessly clean inside, there was
nothing to do. I rinsed it out with degreaser, but got nothing worth
commenting on.

So I put it all back together. And the alternator warning light now
works. I also noticed (yet another demerit point for Wayside Audi)
that part # 857 145 836A was not refitted during the repairs last
January. This is a plate that essentially forms the 'roof' of the
intercooler ducting - it's about 10 square inches, so I should get
somewhat better intercooler airflow.
