Car Movies
In the recent discussion, has NO ONE mentioned....
Bullit!! Steve McQueen stared in THE movie which created the
"chase" movie genre, and set the standard for movies to follow.
IMO, still unequaled in quality of driving and suspenseful chase.
My other favorite from that generation of movies was "Vanishing
Point", in which Barry Knowles (??) (also played Petrocelli in the
TV series) drove into the bulldozer at 100+.
Note that Barry also played the lead in an excellent adaptation of
Alistair McLean's "Fear is the Key" (a superb book, well worth re-
reading today...). In this movie there are some excellent chase
scenes, culminating in his jumping a '72 or so Ford Torino off a
landing dock onto a car ferry! The Torino bent into a visible V
(downwards in front of the driver's door, right where the unibody
support chassis bolted onto the body) but would still move.
Honorable mention:
Two Lane Blacktop
Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry
And since I have only seen parts of "Cannonball" and "Gulball
Rally", I would vote for Burt Reynold's two best auto movies as
"Smokey and the Bandit" (a real classic of its type, and Jerry Reed
stole the movie) and "Hooper the World's Greatest Stuntman".
Audi content: Bob Myers, please call me at 970/407-9609; I want
to see if you will part with your wheels and tires!
Gracias, amigos. Now I go to see the crimson, gold, green and
orange leaves of Colorado fall outside my home...I love it here!!
