Audis are safe???
Haudi,
Was perusing the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin and DOT pages last
night, and noted the following: comparing an '87 4000q and '89 200q (both
mine) to Ford's and Chevy's ~competition.
'87 4000 recalls:
Trans/diff seal w/auto
'87 Chevy Corsica
Headlight switch, failure to operate
Hood latch, flies open "blocking vision"
Door hinge, door falls off or fails to protect in side impact
'87 Ford Tempo
Lug/stud failure, "wheel may not be retained"
'89 200q
New jack label, "prevents injury should car fall during improper use"
Trans/diff seal w/auto
Air bag sensor, inadvertent actuation (WTF??!?!)
'89 Corsica
Fuel tank leak (after one year)
Passive belt failure to latch, or release
Seat frame weld failures
Passive belt lockup failure
Spoked wheels, hub cracks, "wheel may not be retained"
'89 Taurus (my dad had one. Good engine, otherwise POS, had broken alloy
wheel and FIVE auto trans from 20k-100k)
Power seat wiring, fire in seat foam
Brake corrosion, "brake may not function as intended"
Station wagon (Avant/estate) may trap/suffocate kids in rear-facing 6/7 seat
Defective seatbelt, failure to latch or release
Subframe welds, engine falls out (Cooollllll . . .)
Sway-bar welds, mount cracks, bar punctures tire, "may cause loss of control"
I'm pretty content (touching the Siberian forest here) to deal with my
sh*tty lights, crappy handles, and poor door wiring.

'87 4kq (3-points in four outboard positions, rear headrests, 4-wheel ind
susp, 4-wheel disk, AWD, side-impact beams)
'89 200q, all that, plus ABS and Procon10, _no_ bag, and that, uhhh, "fan"
to help outrun the trouble ;-)
