Re: V8 5spd FS
In my defense (BTW, thank you Steve), as if I need to defend my position, the
factory 5spd V8 are rare. Someone legitimately in the market for a V8 5spd
understands the difficulty in locating one. Frankly, the V8 5spd is more rare
than the much sought, dare I say, BMW M5. Compare the value of an M5 with a
comparable 535i. These cars are materially similar, however, their resale
prices are not. Even a 535i with Dinan modifications to allow similar hp
output, values are significantly different.
Compare the disparity of price on a S4 Quattro with a comparably equipped non-
turbo Quattro of the same year. I haven't read any complaints about paying
the difference for a turbo.
Frankly, if you simply want a fast Audi at a good price, this is not the car
for you. I formerly owned an automatic V8, also 1991, which was not
comparable to the 5spd. Additionally, I formerly owned a 5KTQ with a TAP chip
and wastegate spring which was by no means comparable (apple and orange).
Just think - factory, normally aspirated 240bhp/245ftlbs - IA chip & K&N adds
12%+ - exhaust adds about the same. Porting and polishing -- Good Lord!!! -
DO THE MATH -
I own this car outright and have considered selling the car to focus upon
several investments. My fear is, the longer I own it, the more I will invest
in modifications, which have negative yield. If I sell, I will likely spend
my money more wisely. Nevertheless, the lure of 300+ from a Quattro family
sedan is quite compelling.
If there is someone seriously in the market for a V8 5spd, it will sell. If
not, what is my sentence? I'll be forced to drive a great car, that seems to
draw a lot of interest on this list. Humn?....
