The surface of the flywheel is machined down...that's what was done with
mine. It was lightened by 11lbs, but the darn thing is still too heavy.

Because the '91 200 used an 016 tranny which has a longer main shaft and
different TO bearing with a VW spline, while the S4 and CQ use the 01A with
a shorter shaft that uses another flywheel and different TO bearing, in
addition to different splines on the shaft.

The engine revs MUCH faster.

5lbs would be noticeable, but not a night and day difference.
