Just about the best reason I've seen someone give
for flaming. Although you're being a little
sensitive here. I did not reply directly to your
post, but I replied to another listers comments
in the thread, albeit I assume you started the
thread, but I was commenting in general and
not anything you had posted. Next time, a subject
such as "Is this a reasonable charge?" might
reflect less assumptions also.

I don't object to flaming or getting flamed if it's reasonable, for instance if someone makes any sort of outrageous statement or claim and then refuses to back it up. I asked a simple question though, and if you had read the original post, you would have seen that I provided several examples of questionable behavior on the part of my mechanic. I didn't say he was out to shaft me or that all mechanics are crooks, which would definitely be deserving of a flame. My question related to one mechanic and no generalisations were made, I just wanted to know what the list thought.

Incidentally, based on the responses I got from the list, I think I got charged a fair price for the work involved in diagnosing my problem. That's all I wanted to know. I wasn't out to start yet another thread on mechanics and how the public at large perceives them. Having done a bit of work on my car I'm well aware of the effort involved and willing to pay to have it done if I can't do it myself.
