5000CS backlit display

Whenever I turn on the lights, the climate control digital display dims
greatly, or even turns off.  The backlights for the speedo and tach are also
very dim, or off.

I have only had the car for a few days, so I am not sure if this is normal
or not.

Sorry if this is redundant.....
