The rep's name is George, and he was a pretty nice, straightforward
guy. He was pretty knowledgeable about the technicals of my car.
I briefly described my problem (that the 3->4 shift "flares" or
slips quite often), and we went out to try to demo the problem.
Once we got on the road, I also told him that the other reason I
needed to speak to an Audi rep was Doug Park's "answer" to my
problem: don't use "drive" until I'm up to speed on the highway.
At that, George actually laughed! I said that it was this attitude
more than the actual problem that pissed me off, and he agreed.
I did manage to reproduce a couple of small flares, none of the
big 5000 RPM ones though :-( He said he doesn't know of anything
known about this, and it isn't supposed to do that. He will see
if there are any reports back at AoA about this problem with the
01A tranny, and get back to me. Meanwhile, since I now have a
pretty serious paper trail that I reported this problem under
warranty, I can breathe a little easier if something does happen
to me down the road.
