ABS & speed sensor

I just did some suspension work on my 91 200Q which involved removing the
front strut housings from the car. As part of that, I had to pull out the
speed sensors out of the wheel bearing housings. When I reassembled, the
speed sensors would not push all the way back in, to where they were before.
I pulled the sensor out and looked into the hole and see that the sensor is
hitting the "teeth" (for lack of a better term) of the CV joint.

So, my question is, why is the sensor hitting that? Is the driveshaft not
pressed into the wheel bearing housing all the way? Where is the end of the
sensor supposed to end up?

Any information on this is great appreciated.
