oil leak with t-belt change, thanks
Thanks to everyone who responded about the oil leak we found after changing
the timing belt on 86 4kq. The leak was caused by 3 missing bolts that
looked like they held the heat shield up but really held the oil pump
housing to the block. The conversation went something like this:
me: "Um, Sweetie, why are there bolts left on the floor?"
him: "They were just holding that sheet aluminum shield under the radiator.
Rolfie doesn't have anything there so I took it off Klaus."
me: "Are you sure they don't do anything else?"
him: "Pretty sure. Oh $#%^&, there's oil all over the floor! E-mail the
q-list."
BTW, we used a Sear's 1/2 inch drive impact wrench socket on a breaker bar
with a 126cm pipe to loosen and tighten the crank bolt. The pipe gave way
on the third tightening (don't ask why it took 3 times). Socket and breaker
bars are fine.
