I didn't/don't have a problem with my MetalMasters.  They do take a while 
to heat up and work well.  I haven't lived with them in very cold climates 
either.

When I drove without a brake booster (for a long time) it wasn't so bad.  
My calf muscle became incredibly strong, tho'.  YMADV (you mileage 
apparently does vary!)  Maybe I'm not as demanding of a driver...
