Re: Euro Headlight availability and lowering springs

Al,

I've been debating the same question(s). I have an order in for a set of
euro lites for my 91 200q avant through the same place... I have had a set
on my 87 5000tq for 7 years and I can tell you NOTHING will work as well;
they have an excellent beam pattern they are very adjustable, and I haven't
suffered a bulb burnout yet. I put this down to their rather large size, it
allows the bulbs to not over heat, and I'm using 90/100 & 100 per unit. BTW
I keep the low beams adjusted quite low. (I did the wiring myself when I put
the lites on at 90,000 and now I,m at 205,000). If you want the good price I
think your stuck, I paid $800 when I got my other set in 1991...and I can't
think of an alternative.

I also spied the spring deal. Eibachs are suposedly not so 'aggresive'. I
have a set on my 79 323i w/ bilstein HD shocks (NOT the sports), and they
aren't bad, stiffness wise. They were great riding over anything smaller
then a mountain when I had Fuldas on it, although they didn't deliver
ultimate grip. Now I 'm using SP 8000 215/50 & 225/50 and even at only 29
psi (it doesn't weigh much)it's more truck like in ride quality...Grips like
hell though. Guess tires are a critical part of the equation too- of couse.

Eibachs I think are probably the best compromise of ride vs lowering. But as
my wife will use my wagon more than I will, I feel it is a step in the wrong
direction. First, ride height in Practical Cars is extremely useful
(necessary)! And second, why beat up the wife/kid/car with stifness just to
look cool? When so motivated, I can drive that boat just the way it is,
faster then I should ! I think a big car with ample ground clearance will
always feel a bit "top heavy", it goes with the territory. Heck, lets face
it, these are Big; Heavy; cars.

As far as Boge shocks, I put the 'turbo gas' type in my 87 and I can tell
you I don't care for them. I still have the stock springs mind you, (that
ride height thing again---I just can't see turning my car into a snow plow).
They've stiffened it up a fair amount, and after about 4 years of driving it
I'd say I'd rather have the stock ones back. I just don't feel the need to
drive that aggresively (when you MAY need that stuff) often enough to put up
with the added annoyance...I have other toys that are much much better at
that sort of thing. MY moto is to keep it functional first. Well that's my
two cents. (About what its worth) !!
