Sorry to hear of your loss. My wife is an insurance adjuster and we
have been through this type of thing before with my dead 84 Jeep.
In NYS at least, the companies will look at the money you have put into
the car, usually stuff within the last year. You are right, the book
values
will be less than you want: NADa at approx 3375 and Red Book at approx
3700-4100. They will prolly tell you it's a wreck. Another thing you can
do to get a higher check amt is to back up your figures for what the car is
worth with classifed ads and/or FS listings for similar cars. Maybe other
