Help! #*@! Audi Wiring

OK,
	Im dumb.  I'll put that right up front.
Now, While putting in a new Stereo into an 87' 4kq, I clip the Night
Illumination Wire (The one that runs daisy chained through the entire dash
for Dash Lights, AC Backlight, and 4wc gauge lights.)  ANyhow, the new
stereo didn't have a wire for night illumination.  So I clip off the end,
go to tape it.  Oops, Tape is at home, I am at school.  Hmm, Well, I'll
leave it for an hour intill I make it to the store.  Put deck in,
everything works, illumination is fine, drive around for a few minutes in
daylight and then park car.
	Later when I leave afterdark to go get the tape, I start car and
no dash lights!  Dang.  My guess is when I was driving around it shorted
out on the Stereo Chassis or similar.  Check fuse, Hmm, 15A fuse is FIne.
Guess the 20ga wire was weaker than the fuse.  (Typical Audi)   Well, NOW
What!
	Did I fry the wire somewhere.  Is there something I'm missing.
Common problem I should check before I tear entire dash apart to fix it?
