bomb?

90 Coupe Quattro...

Tried changing my bomb this weekend. I had checked and noticed
the rubber washers, so I ordered a 4AO---D bomb, the newer model.
When I got my old part off, I found that it was a 493---E part.
(going from memory on the last letter). This part doesn't appear
in the fiche, as the choices are 893--- or 4AO---.
Weird. It seems to be the same part, but I didn't get around
to installing it.

I also started changing a ripped outer drivers side CV boot.
The procedure is the same as on most VW/Audis - remove center
wheel cap, break loose the 30mm axle nut (except that the CQ was 27
mm and instead of a nut on the axle, has a bolt that threads into the
axle), raise car, remove wheel, remove inner CV bolts (funky
tool needed), remove bolt for balljoint (17mm x 2), drop balljoint,
maneuver axle out.

Interesting - the replacement bolt in my Meistersatz kit does
not match the one in the car. Instead of a 27mm bolt (head size)
it appears to be a bolt with a 17mm hex head. Size is the
same, although the new bolt is threaded all the way while the
old is smooth in the center.

Anyone run across this before? I'm sure it's fine, but just
wanted to make sure. And since I need to replace the balljoint
too, I have some time :) I also need to get the gasket between
the inner cv joint and the tranny, I'd recommend having that
one on hand when doing this job just in case.
