Re: abs

zsolt, the computer which programmes the abs runs it through its cycle when
you start the car...on mine this cycle gives a metallic grinding/clanking
sound. as a newcomer to the list you'll learn that the quattros are quite
different from a regular car. you should always use it with the centre diff
locked (pos 1) when driving on slippery surfaces or "with gusto" i didn't do
that last year and almost lost my car and my life. i asked advice of the
lists experienced members and what i just passed on was their advice to me.
the other important information i learned was that quattro will enable you
to drive forward in the most trying conditions but when it comes time to
stop on a slippery surface...four times zero still equals zero traction...so
don't fool yourself. quattro seems unbeatable..until you cross the threshold
and then it's a real handful to control because it doesn't react to input as
you would expect. find a clear open snow packed and safe area and do you own
test of your cars limitations and how to control what happens when the
limits are exceeded. i did all this and was still fooled, so i'll be doing
much more practice this year when snow eventually comes.
