Re: tire mounting/balance/alignment



Before you take your car to be aligned at any shop, I recommend spraying the
tie-rod ends and any other nut/ bolt assembly with a good penetrating oil
like Liquid Wrench. I did this to my 87 5KQ a day or so before dropping it
off at the garage and the alignment tech couldn't stop thanking me. He told
me that he is always nervous when he sees older q's come in because the
tie-rod ends tend to seize and sometimes break, he said mine were as easy to
adjust as a new car's. I live in NewEngland so I'm not sure it is as much of
an issue in your area but it is easy to do and can't hurt. It also lets the
mechanic know that you aren't just an average customer off the street with
no automotive knowledge. That is always a good thing.
