revised search engine in place

I've fixed the search engine so it returns a wider range of 
dates, and I've also upgraded the version of the htdig software
that it uses.

It's not perfect, but I think you'll find it's a big improvement.
When the new server is up, I will be splitting the daily archives
into individual messages, which should help refine the
searching significantly (and the main reason I ordered a 9GB
disk for this machine!)
