Audi photo link and upset victory

There is a picture of me and my black 84 4kq at NHIS at

(the stock suspension is showing considerable body lean.) It is followed by
a picture of someone else's 30V A4q with the sport suspension.

At this particular event, when the trophy presentations were made, it was
announced that Nelson Davis (MR2) had placed 3rd in SSB. He was a shoo-in
for 1st or 2nd, and I couldn't believe someone had beaten him. Then it was
announced that Fred Sanford (Miata) had placed 2nd, which caused much
incredulity, since the two of them are virtually unbeatable, and were in a
dead tie for the season SSB title. Someone had beaten both of them! As the
tension built, it was announced that the winner had motored his 84 Audi
quattro around the course (N Oval / S Chicane) in the unbelievable time of
1:26:45 (the crowd gasped!) and was none other than yours truly!!! I
couldn't believe it and thought there had to be a mistake, but no, I went up
for the trophy presentation. It was seventh heaven getting a first place
trophy on the podium. What a blast! The best part was the gradual
realization that my car was competitive with Miatas and MR2s. I wanted to
rush off and put the dash plaque in my car immediately Then a few minutes
later, they asked the SSB competitors to come up after the trophy
presentation. "Uh oh" I said to myself, and began to get paranoid. Sure
enough, it was a mistake, and I handed my trophy to Fred, he handed his to
Nelson, and Nelson handed his to me... "No, that goes to Thomas Ryan" (MR2).
Sigh. Big bummer. All-in-all, it was worth the letdown for the moment of
glory and seeing the stunned looks on everyone's faces. Now all I need is a
photo of the trophy presentation to preserve the memory. (I placed 6th with
a 1:36:45. The A4 placed 3rd in SSA.) :^)
