The auto-down switch in 91-96 Caprices (and derivatives)
is electromechanical: when pushing very lightly and rather
briefly, it only goes as long as held (It works this way, but
that's not really intended), but if you push it normally,
a little arm holds it down (until it stops by voltage/current 
sensing), so that you pull it back into the center position
to stop the auto feature. I'd guess that there are up/down 
implementations of this, too.
