The early ur-quattros were fitted with a sediment trap between the tank
and the fuel pump. This was a 30000km service change item.

The German authorities (TUEV) then forbad any "Eingriff" (action) on
fuel supply lines as regular maintenance, and Audi removed the sediment
traps.

On my chassis (85-J-900637) the mounting tab was merely bent up against
the floorpan. I bent it back down, cut the supply hose, and installed a
sediment trap. It now has a small triangle of crap trapped in it,
about 8mm on the long side and 5mm in height.
