RE: Telling HAL what to do (instead of where to go)
I already have this! I press a switch and say "window down" and the window
goes down. Of course, I'm pressing the window switch.
But seriously folks...
The AutoPC (Windows CE based-box) is going to have a lot of features like
this, although specific features like sunroof and windows stuff would
probably have to be added by the manufacturer, instead of aftermarket. I
think MB and Cadillac are working on similar systems.
I think you could probably get a Windows CE box or Palm Pilot to understand
speech, but getting it to actually control electronics in the car would be a
whole other story.
Some of the good voice recognition companies have speech engines which
recognize context, so if you said "Sunroof, open" it would know the
difference from saying to your passenger "I wish the sunroof was open".
Some cars may already have some of this - I don't know.
