Another possibility is blowby getting past the piston.  
When it overheated it may have caused damage to the lower 
end, although the compression readings seem good. Maybe a 
wet compression test may reveal something. If the car sat 
for a very long time in humid conditions with head off, 
the piston rings may have seized.  Is there any unusually
high oil consumption also? How do the plugs look?
