1991 V8Q 5 Speed rumbles

I have had a occasional rumble coming from underneath the car. This happens at
~40mph at a steady speed. Lift off the gas and it goes away. Depress the clutch
and
it goes away. It now also occasionally happens at highway speed. My mechanic
thinks
it's the driveshaft bearing, but that may be because that can not be seen
without deassembe
the exhaust system. It sounds to be like it's coming from the back of the car
but who knows.
There is no vibration in the steering wheel OR in the shifter when this happens.
Anyone has
something similar happen?
