Re: Sport quattros

    Jouko,

I can't believe there are NO Sport quattros in Finland! You may
just have to do something about that. ;)

Well, if none of the Sport quattros are in Finland and there are
only 12-18 here in the US, where did they all go???? That figure of
218 sounds high. I had no idea they produced that many. But, I do
seem to remember that in order to qualify for the World Championship
Rally cicuit, they had to be running a "production" configuration.
Production = 200 units. So, you must be right, or at least close on
the number produced.

I'm willing to bet that most of them are in the UK. A small
country with an unfair majority of fine quattros! I'll bet Phil could
tell us at least how many Sport Quattros are registered in the UK. I'd
sure like to know. I know most of the Ur-quattros are on that side of
the pond. The brits have a keen liking to the car.

And, I think Dave Eaton could let us know whether any made it to
Australia or New Zealand. I doubt it. That leaves France, Germany,
and Italy as the major players. Maybee one or two in Canada???

I'm just wondering where all these cars went. I think all the
Sport quattros here were imported grey market cars. I don't think they
ever went on sale here in the states.

Now, these "new" models you talk of. Were they actually built in
1988 and stored somewhere at the factory, or were they just recently
built out of leftover parts from 1988 that the factory had lying
around? Carrol Shelby did this a few years ago with leftover cobra
parts from the original series run, and they fetched big $$$$ because
they were made from "original" parts. Not sure that that makes them
any better though. Just more valuable.
