VAS 5051 tester - first impressions
We got our new VAS 5051 tester yesterday. We ordered it about a year ago,
and now the first few have arrived in the country. I unpacked it like a kid
at Christmas time and got it fired up. Initial impression on the touch
screen was lukewarm, reminded me of those old HP PC's from 15 years ago.
Being Win95 based did not really get me excited either, I've had my fair
share of trouble with Windows.
All the functions of the VAG 1551/ VAG 1552 are there, plus an oscilloscope
and guiided fault finding. The latter seemed interesting, I tested it by
unplugging the MAF sensor and the intake pressure sensor on a TDI. At first
it interrogates the fault codes, and then leads you step by step, showing
you schematics/pictures/connectors/etc graphically if and when necessary.
Apparently the oscilloscope function is very good, guiding you along and
actually giving you what the correct waveform is for a given parameter.
The price for this fun is a little over USD 20 000.00 , but hopefully it'll
make us more worthy of our customers' business - given the guys take
advantage of the new capabilities and added speed.
Now if I could only figure out how to scrape the little Seat and Skoda
emblems off...(no Bentley, Bugatti, Lambo labels yet)
