Re: I have seen 225/50-15's on a 4kq
This thread seems a bit stupid to me, but since I actually have 225's on my
4kq, I thought I should contribute. I'm running a 225/40ZR16 Dunlop SP-8000
on my '85 4kq (now my mom's car) and it is far and away the best tire that
I've ever had on a 4kq. The car sticks hooks up MUCH better with this wider
tire, and the only clearance problem was on the back fender lips which
needed to be rolled, and after doing such, cured that problem. I've also
yet to have had the car hydroplane on me in wet weather. I'm running Eibach
Pro-Kit springs which lowered the car about an inch, with stock sway bars;
the only mod the car could use (besides a 10vt) is a bigger sway bar in
front and one in back.
The argument that "the S4 came with 225's and weighed 1000lb's more, so the
4kq doesn't need it", is a bit lame and uneducated IMHO; the fact is that
Audi's are SEVERELY undertired, including the S4. Having a wider tire is
going to help handling, not hinder it. I'm running a 225/50ZR16 on my CQ
too, and that change was a night and day improvement in handling for that
car; I'm back on my OE sized 205/50HR16 Michelins for winter now, and I
could immediately feel a dramatic difference in handling when I switched
over again.
That's it for me on this thread.
cya!
