4kq towing advice
The car I'm looking at for my father (87 4kq) was _towed_ for about 1.5-2
hours while the PO moved to Chicago this weekend.
He said that he specifically looked in the manual and it told him that if
a flatbed was not an option, that towing with the front wheels off the
ground and the diffs all unlocked (in that "up" 12-o'clock position) would
be okay, so long as he drove semi-slow.
This is what he did. Upon test driving it yesterday, the diffs seem to
engage fine and everything ran kosher. I've read the towing threads in
earnest and wanted to second opinion.
Then, as per the archives, I read up on "Towing a quattro" at
http://www.teleport.com/~erickson/q_towing.htm
This says that since the center diff will not turn, we need to disconnect
the driveshaft first and secure it out of the way. Is this true? I can't
imagine that the 4kq manual would state one thing and require another.
Insights? It drove okay ... :)
Thanks much,
Mark
