asking for opinions on tires.
Well, the tires on the A6Q are getting a little shallow in the tread.
Time to start looking at replacements. I don't want to stay with the oem
Goodyear Eagle GAs, not happy with their performance at all even though
my wife thinks they are perfectly alright, the A6Q is her everyday car.
After some arguing I've managed to get her to go along with fitting
tires that are a little more aggressive as long as they aren't
significantly noisier or harsher in ride. After doing some research I've
narrowed the field down to the following three:
BFGoodrich Comp T/A HR4s, Dunlop D60 A2s, and Pirelli 6000 sport veloce
HRs.
We have the Dunlops on the 87 5ktq and are quite happy with them but my
wife feels that they are noisier than the Eagles. I think that it's the
cars themselves. The A6Q I feel is a better insulated than the 5ktq and
that's why there is more rode and tire noise in 5ktq.
I've spoken to one guy at work that has a set of Pirelli 6000
performance tires, not the sport veloce model, and he says that they are
great dry and wet weather tires. From poking around the quatttro
archives the front runner tire there appears to be the Comp T/As, the VR
rated ones that is.
Has anyone in the quattro list had a chance to compare these three
tires, or at least compare one set against the Dunlops? The Dunlops are
my base line.Hoping to get some pros and cons on these three. Thanks in
advance.
Some more info. I've picked the size 205/60-15 in order to stay with the
original wheels, the oems were 195/65-15. The car will be driven in
central New Jersey primarily where there isn't a real heavy snow fall
and whatever does fall is cleared from the roads fairly quickly. The
mileage is split pretty evenly between highway and suburban/rural roads.
Total mileage during the year is around 25 to 30k miles.
