You shouldnt always believe everything you read!

To make such a broad based claim, is inapproiate!

Can you tell me the reasoning behind that persons "claims"?

I'll give you a hint.............
It has something to do with the engines oil!

Actually the engine was dismantled to verify the claims of
synthetic oils such as Mobil 1! Which was the oil the engine
was "strictly" run on, since new!

The original factory "cross-hatch" pattern was still clearly visible in each
cylinder! Wear was measured using a precision "Starrett" bore gauge.
They were all well below factory spec's for wear limits!
(Referenced by the Audi Factory Repair Manual-Bentley)
As well as each and every component within the engine, all exhibited
miniscule wear!

The engine was reassembled, and currently has 186,574 miles and
the compression is still above factory spec's! Reassembly only
required the necessary gaskets to complete. A "rebuild" was
not needed!

Of course its still run on Mobil 1................

Old saying here:

"That which works well with one engine
may not work so well with another"

By the way........

How many thermostats have you changed in your lifetime?
