Reason:

Where is the temp guage sending unit located?

On an Audi its usually near the front of the engine, directly in
the airstream of cooling air coming through the grill!

Put the sender out of the air flow, say back on #5 cylinder
and you'll get a different, more accurate reading!(BTDT)
