I wasn't going to jump in to this thread, but I have to say that 136K
just isn't that much milage for an Audi! I have seen horribly abused
Audi's go 160K and more. The hypothesis as I understand it is that a
lower temperature thermostat makes the engine run at lower temps that it
was designed for leading to bad fit and lubrication. The combustion
chamber temperature is also lower leading to higher emissions and less
efficiency. I'm no fan of heat soak either, but I also left it to Audi to
decide what thermostat to use.
