V8 sick again

Hi all,
   I took my lucky car to the insurance drive through yesterday.
The last day before I was to pick it up someone came to the dealer's
lot and smashed the passenger's window with a crowbar. Then rifled through
the glovebox but was scared off by the alarm. In any event, when I went to
have an estimate to present to the dealer I drove the car for the first
time and a cloud of black smoke came up. For the entire time there was
hesitation and wander at idle in the tach? Since the car now has new
valves and lifter and the rings are good what could possibly be going on
now? I'm waiting for the dealer's latest word soon and would love to be
prepared.
