I bought my first V1 in 1992.  It is an excellent radar detector.  There was a 
time when it saved me once per trip, on the ave.  I got about 3 or so, upgrade 
offers, but I never acted.  Early this year I got the new V1, and gave mine to 
my dad.  I really don't see much improvement.  I'm sure it is much better, but 
it is not obvious.  If I actually got the upgrade, I would be worried that they 
didn't do anything to the unit.  The newer models(my first V1 was pre-laser) do 
have laser detection, but the chances of getting hit with laser not intended for
you is very slim.  It is good to know, though, so you can pull of and act like 
you were just passing, etc.  I think there is even a newer model now.  My new 
one looks exactly like the original, except there is a extension on the bottom 
for laser, and I think there are new sounds.  The newest one has different 
lights for the different bands of radar it detects.  IMHO with the use of 
instant on, etc. I don't think it is worth the $250.  I would wait awhile longer
for some new developments.

In my continuous pursuit to elude the authorities, I noticed Valentine One 
offers an upgrade.

Has anyone done this?  It is $250, my V1 is two years old.
