believe it or not - ur-q for sale
that's right. i've had it six weeks. and i finally
got some sense into my head: i should really not be
making payments on an exotic sports car when i am
pretty buried in foolish, foolish credit card debt.
basically, i'll sell it for what i put into it: when
i bought it it had useless tires and the electrics
were toasted. it had the 4krpm cutout problem, and
was a bitch to start. now:
it has 4 yokohama avs s4 ultra-high performance tires
v-rated with less than 500 miles on them.
new fuse box and wiring fixes by 2bennett to get the
thing into tip-top electrical shape.
2bennett also worked on the starting problem. it's not
perfect but starts *at most* on three atempts. usually
1 or 2, and always fires right if it's been driven in
the last 8 hours or so.
2bennett checked and fixed vaccuum leaks, including
replacing a line.
2bennett put on a new muffler - there is only the first
muffler, the second was removed for that extra sexy
thrum and bit of power that comes with it.
windows work, though a wee bit slow, i have not tried
to fix them.
bomb ok.
euro headlights.
front and rear stock sway-bars (no kidding).
rear-wiper, good blades front and rear.
various other minor fixes - switches, courtesy lights,
window washers, new sunroof seal and alignment.
it also has an alarm and *perfect* paint/body - there
is not a scratch or ding or anything on it. also, it
has been registered in california so that $300 fee has
been taken care of, and it passed smog with flying
colors.
112k miles, and after the repairs from 2bennett i did
three weekend road trips to "beta test" the car.
engine rebuild at 60k miles (po ran into some pipes
sticking out of a pickup which pierced the grill and
got into the motor, breaking the timing belt and...
repainted lhasa green because of hailstorm damage a
couple of years ago.
first owner blew the turbo and it was replaced on
purchase by the second owner (i am the third) at 45k
miles. he did not warm up or cool down the car
properly.
a/c needs a recharge (so the po told me, i have not
looked into this and was considering taking the 100
pounds of a/c crap out of there to lose weight).
cruise control is disconnected, dunno the status of
that, though. the vacuum lines are disconnected.
some hoses and things under the bonnet are showing
their age (it's an '83, build date 1/82) and though
functioning will probably need renewing. turbo
cooling hose (no, it's the intake hose) is fine i
think. the bushings (i think that's what they are)
are showing their age but are ok.
brake fluid resovoir is warped but functional.
stock ronals and brakes, brakes in great shape
with recent pads
car is from denver and as "rust free" as a snow
country car can be - no salt in denver. car was
garaged in denver as well as for my two months of
ownership in san francisco. i believe this is as
rust free as just about any 83 ur-q on the road.
interior is in great shape, imo.
believe it or not, one of the mirror motors works (the
passenger side, fortunately).
i have records for what i did to it, including the
tire guarntee, as well as a fair amount of the
po's records too, at least for the big stuff like
the rebuild, paint job, new windshield, etc.
heck, everything about the car is in the archives ;)
as most of you have read, it does have a puffing exhaust
manifold, though i have driven it very mellow since it
started so the warpage should be nil/nonexistant (as i
understand it).
i'm looking for $9k for the car - unless many of you
advise me to ask for more, or tell me that i am on crack
and should ask less.
it really sucks to have to do this, as i am in desperate
love with this car, and some day i will own another ur-q.
but for now, reducing my debts is of utmost importance.
other things are going too - a dj sound system, some art
probably, a powerbook, possibly a synthesizer or three,
i'm even considering a motorcyle. i think i bought this
car a couple of years to soon for my finances, basically.
i'll be on list more, but i do want to thank everyone
again. this is by far the most courteous, helpful,
fantastic online community i have ever run across,
after 10 years on the net. the collective knowledge
here is astounding, and i found the instant inclusion
and courtesy i recieved to be of great comfort and
warmth.
recent pictures of the car will be online shortly, with
a descriptive web page to aid the sale. for now you can
look at the car just before i bought it, and the only
outward appearance change is i had the 4 rings stock
decals professionally applied (i always sucked with decals
on models as a kid, and at like $90 each i did not want to
screw those up. anyway, the url is
http://caliban.sf.ca.us/ur-q/
thanks to you all...
