I strongly recommend that you avoid a used pump except as a
temporary, emergency repair. The plastic coolant ports become
brittle with time and high under-hood temperatures. Any unit
with more than 100 k-mi or, say, 8 years of service is a candidate
for failure. Sharp sideways tugs on the hoses will frequently verify
this claim. For those driving older Audis, who appreciate the value
of preventative maintenance, preemptive R&R of this item will
save an unplanned roadside rendezvous one of these days.
