The button doesn't "select rear wheel drive". The car is full-time
all-wheel drive. The button locks the rear differential to allow
the car to get unstuck in really slippery stuff. It is only
intended for use to get unstuck from a stopped condition, not during
normal driving. Locking the differential disables ABS, hence the
ABS-off light comes on too. The car automatically unlocks the rear
differential when the speed is increased.
Your description sounds like the car is working just fine.
