syncro gear or?<88,80q>

Hi all,
could someone tell me why
my 88 80q grinds for just
a second when shifting from
2nd to 3rd, ONLY if i'm above
4600 or so rpm??
also, is there any way of upping
the horses for this motor?
TIA!!
P.S. As you all know, nobody at a repair
shop will tell me whats wrong, they
want to fix it first $$$ :>
