Good heavens! I am looking at a newer 1992 200t auto FWD.
The temp on this thing goes up to 100 celcius (97) all the
time, even at night, even with the fan going. The oil
pressure drops quite easily to just under 1.0 bar (eek!)
at idle, barely covers 2 bar at 1800RPM. It has no pull.
When I first drove it a week ago it wouldn't exceed 1.2 bar
on the boost gauge. I have driven the car for the last
2 days and it is a tough push to exceed 1.0 bar now.
The IC-TB hose is perfect. The car is in perfect body
condition, black leather seats with no scuffing, every
creature comfort works and it is in brand new showroom
condition. My only concern is this boost problem. I was
even thinking of taking the motor out of my current '89 200t
and putting it into the newer car as is, but I changed my
mind. They both have low oil pressure problems, but my one
has controllable temperature (87 degrees).
What could be wrong with the car? Could the wastegate be
stuck open, directing gas away from the turbine? In my
89 200 the WG is missing the diaphragm and I leave the
air hose from the WG frequency valve in place and the
result is a stuck closed WG (hello 1.7 bar .... whiplash!).
I am very curious as to what causes this problem. Could it
perhaps be the hose running to the inlet of the intercooler?
I looked at it a few hours ago and it seems one of the
belts and pulleys at some stage scraped into the pipe (I'm
thinking small front end smash). There is no hole, but the
belt did seems to have eaten in a bit. Pulling codes
reveals nothing (code 4444).
I have decided to leave the car and not take it, rather
spend the money on finally fixing mine.
Wolff, does the car have heavy oil pressure problems, ie.
at idle does the pressure drop below 1.5 bar?
I fear I am about to say no to a pristine bodied car with
immaculately maintained interior and accessories, but with
a funny engine. My car is stuffed to say the least, but
it starts to pull solidly from 0.7 bar, this one doesn't.
Anyway, sorry for the useless blurb. I would suggest having
the wastegate looked at, it might be stuck on open. For now
I am going to be saying no to the newer 1992 200t MC car,
even if I could take both and swap engines I'd be in crud
trying to sell my car's body with the funnier working motor.
Eek.
