The dominating engine in the older Audi 80 (US: 4000) is the 1.8
carburator engine. High fuel consumption, low power and in many cars,
you need to sit with your foot on the throttle when idling a engine
that is not cold, but not warm either. The absence of I5-powered cars
and quattro has made the 80/4000 series a car not for the enthusiast.
The 100/5000 usually had the I5 engine, but many also had the "#¤#"¤
1.8 carburator engine.. On the older cars, "Audi 100" on the trunk lid
is a 4-cyl carburator engine while "Audi 100 CC" (most common) or
other letters is equipped with the I5. The early I5 gave us 138 hp,
the 85-91 136 hp and the 91--> 133 hp..
