    Mechanic doesn't know Audi's.  On the 84' the rear never was
available with power except on a special limited build 4ks that I ahve
seen only ONE of.  All quattros have the front power, rear crank.
    Other than that, price seems OK with limited info you gave.  Be
cautious.  SOunds like it may have been neglected.  L8R
