Yes, that's how they found the leak in the first place. (Charge with
nitrogen+dye, look for leaking dye.) I should be able to take the
evaporator to them for the same type of procedure after I remove it.
However, I just talked to a guy at the shop, and he said that 90% of
the time it's not a good idea to repair them. He says that they are
aluminum and deteriorate from the inside out, therefore, it may leak
again soon after repair. Can anyone confirm or refute this reasoning?
He also said that he found a new evaporator for $335. I'm going to be
calling around tomorrow.
