Rusty door hinges on 95 S6/A6???
My "new" used '95 S6 has a binding drivers door. The door was
lubricated by the guy that I bought it from, but it didn't fix the
problem, though it got a little better. The lubricant coming out of
the hinge is rust colored. Schaumburg Audi who did the pre-purchase
inspection said the door hinge had to be replaced, though only after I
pointed out the problem ($385, which one of you said was EXPENSIVE for
that job).
Anyway, I call Audi USA, and they of course would not cover it under
the rust warranty. I was told by them that the car must not have been
properly maintained , i.e. the doors had not been lubricated. Are you
supposed to lubricate doors to prevent rust in the hinges??? She
claimed it said so in the Audi manual under do-it-yourself maintenance.
I got a price reduction on the car, but I am a little mystified by the
fact that a 3.2 year old car has rusty door hinges. Any thoughts???
