84 4k head gasket R&R. Any Tips?

Hi, my brother is going to be helping a friend of his put a new head gasket in
his 84 4k (not quattro, so 4 banger). They asked me, since neither is subbed
to the list, to post for advice before they dive in. I'm sure they'd
appreciate any advice given. I know I would, I want the garage back.

P.S. I'm ISO a small (8 gallon or so) SCCA approved fuel cell and tilton brake
pedal/balance bar/MCs combo, anyone?
